- So there's been another change to the Ethiopian court system. Yesterday morning, we got a call from Imagine: the policy has changed. The judge is now allowing adoptive parents to appear in court on the same day as the birth parents. The children's birth mom is appearing on November 2. Would we like to consider traveling this week, to arrive in Ethiopia by October 30? Is there any way we could get our flights and accommodations changed? Reader, I tell you.... I tried. I tried. Mr Gwen was working out of town, so I couldn't just pick up the phone; I had to wait until the evening, when I reached him through his hotel. And long story short... no, he couldn't see how he could get the time off. It's all arranged for late November; he's in the middle of a job; how could we leave now?
- Feeling just a little sad about this. Not too bad, though; after all, we were happy with our court date when we got it. This would have been just a nice bonus. But unlike the infamous vineyard workers, I'll be happy to be in court on December 2. Still, though. Hmm. Would have been really great to cut a month off.
- Made some wicked, wicked awesome Sega Wat this week, by combining four different recipes. I mean, it was fantastic. It has become Mr Gwen's and my youngest daughter's favourite thing. Who'da thunk it?
- Have some Injera starter fermenting away at the back of my counter. Feeling quite pleased about this. Feel that it's one good thing about *not* leaving at the end of this week: who would feed the starter if I left?
- Am wrestling with this: what do I call my kids in Blogland once we're through court? I don't disclose anyone's name but my own on this blog, and I don't identify exactly where we live. Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world, and loose lips sink ships. (Thanks Kristin.) So what do I call them? With two kids, it's easy to say "my older daughter" and "my younger daughter." But it's more awkward with four. And, clearly, since the Blethering Spot has morphed into an adoption blog, mind-numbingly boring for anyone outside the adoption world, I'll be writing lots about my two Ethiopian-born children. I need names. Kind of drawing a blank for famous brother/sister pairs, though. (And were Pebbles and Bam Bam brother/sister?) THIS CALLS FOR A POLL.

Yeah, I'm still here
Meh. Not feeling bloggish lately (as if you couldn't tell). Will pop in with some point form to fool you into thinking I've posted properly:

9 Fellow Bletherers:
Bam-Bam and Pebbles were not brother and sister. Bam-Bam was the son of Betty and Barney. Pebbles was the daughter of Fred and Wilma. In fact, they may have grown up to be boyfriend/girlfriend. I was a huge Flintstones fan as a kid. Good grief, I watched too much TV.
Having said that, you could still use those names if you like them.
Or, you could just use the first letter of each of their names when referring to the new kids on the block.
That's right, coincidentally I think Bam-Bam was adopted in fact. And Bam-Bam and Pebbles got married in the end. Or maybe I'm making that up? I can't remember but I think those are very cute names to use anyway! They get my vote!
Hmmm, Max and Ruby? Or you can use some number system (sister 1). I like the idea of using first initials. It's pretty common to do that when doing ovbservations and taking notes that have to be confidential.
Good luck, glad to hear things are progressing.
How about the Ethiopian word for sister and brother? Or I guess the initial as long as 2 of your 4 don't share the same first letter? Ohhh, it is so complicated... I am sorry that you couldn't make the earlier court date but God's timing is best sooo. Maybe he wanted that starter just right?!
Ooh, there are some good ideas! Will add them right away!
Couldn't find a blog poll site that would let me put in all the votes already taken -- so have just added a separate one. :)
I was thinking you could go with a Pevensey theme. I realise the gender is wrong. I don't care.
Shan, those were the first ones I thought of! But sadly the genders do matter to me. I'm funny that way.
I'm calling you right now... please stand by.
Great minds and all that rot. My first thought was the Narnia gang, too.
I'm liking the Ethiopian words for brother/sister, too.
What goes with Georgia?
